Maine Power Reliability Program

Type: Renewables, Transmission
Scope: Constructed and upgraded 200 miles of 34.5kV, 115kV, and 345kV transmission lines in service of a large-scale hydropower project in Maine.
Location: Lewiston, Maine
Client: Central Maine Power

In service of growing power demands in Maine and New England, the Maine Power Reliability Project (“MPRP”) involved the construction and reconstruction of over 350 miles of transmission infrastructure. In December 2010, MPRP owner Central Maine Power (“CMP”) awarded Irby a contract to construct the MPRP’s Central Loop work scope.

The Central Loop consisted of 200 miles of installation, modification and/or removal of 345kV and 115kV electric transmission lines. Supported by a consortium of Quanta Services companies (Irby is a Quanta subsidiary PWR:NYSE)) and Cianbro Corporation, the work scope included the removal and reconstruction of lattice towers, several major river crossings, micro pile foundation installation (and helicopter support), fiber splicing and testing, blasting, and lead abatement. Completed in May 2015, the project met all contractual milestone, outage, and completion dates.
